I predict here and now that should the Congress pass health care reform, that this political combination will be seen for decades and centuries to come, and as long as there is a place called the United States of America as having forged a pact that changed the course, fortunes and destiny of the American people.

No one should doubt that in the past that we have had great Presidents, and even dynamic and effective leaders in both the House and Senate, but none of those leaderships pacts of the past was able to or will have accomplished what these three leaders will have accomplished in the face of unrivaled and unparalleled and intensely organized opposition from the entrenched interest of the affected industries and the Republican Party, to hold their caucus together and to deliver legislation and laws that will profoundly benefit all Americans.

President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, Leader Reid and the Democratic Party will have overcome organized lobbying from powerful industry groups and companies, mean spirited rumors, out right lies, deliberate distortions, half truths, racism ,bigotry, character assassinations, defections, political party switches, single issue voting Senators and Congressmen, and the influence of the fanatical anti abortionist, even right wing Evangelical and Fundamental Religious blocks to pass health care and insurance reform.

They are on the cusp of finally bringing America into the 21st century when it comes to providing basic health care and insurance reform for America and the American people.

I salute them.

Whether we win lose or draw, for the last month as I watched the President and my political party come together and fight for health care reform I was truly proud to be a Democrat and to have voted for the Democratic Party in the last election.

I am also proud...especially of President Obama for calmness and level-headedness during this ridiculous time and I am proud of those who have the sense and courage to educate themselves about what the President is doing and ignore the screaming lies of the people who hate him.

Amen. We need a government by and for the People, and it look like we may actually have it for once. I am very proud of them today. This thing isn't perfect, but the message is that they're trying to help the American People and not the corporate plutocracy. Thank you President Obama and Speaker Pelosi in particular- your hearts have shown through today.

You are so right, Renard. It is especially refreshing that pelosi, reid, rangel, dodd, frank, etc. have brought the most honest, forthright administration, of the highest degree of integrity, in US history to the table. There is no doubt that they have sacrificed personally, both financially and politically to bring a health care bill to fruition that guarantees the womb-to-tomb coverage that Amerikans deserve and have a right to. I only hope they can get Cap-and-Trade voted in to finally put the screws to Amerika's polluting industries. C & T would also be a great investment opportunity for congresspeople . Finally, legalizing abortion through full-term will greatly assist in keeping the crime rate low and getting our birth rate below 1.5 so we can finally emulate the success of European countries like Greece, Italy, England, Sweden, etc.

I too, am truly proud of the continual fight for our

health care and our dignity: We are truly lucky, blessed

or fortunate...to have the type of leadership in our President

and the Democratic Party....

Excellent piece, renard...thanks!!

It has been said people "get the government they deserve". Whether this was insightful rhetoric or sour grapes it does have a degree of relevance. It is my hope (as an OLD conservative (fiscally only) that health care passes so all of the nation's people have access to health care. If we truly consider ourselves a great nation (and I certainly do) then we will prosper as jobs are added and the standard of living increases for everyone. I would like to see both houses of government work together toward a common goal of good for the people who put them there. This bi-partisan animosity needs to end, and soon, on BOTH sides of the aisle. If health care passes WONDERFUL! If it doesn't pass, that's OK too, until it does eventually pass. But let's work together in a reasonable manner. These constant shrill voices in the news are difficult to hear. Thank you for reading.

As we go forward from here, I especially as a veteran and a citizen hope that all of us work hard to restore prosperity to our nation and our people.

Many like to say that the Republicans by saying no to every proposal of the President and the Democratic Party are standing on principle, and while I do not believe that personally, far be it from me to deny them the right to say it.

"Senators and Congressmen, and the influence of the fanatical anti abortionist,"

Careful there. There were 60 democrats in the house that would not vote for the house version without the Stupak amendment. Are all these Democrats fanatical? I pray it happens again.

Any language in any bill that allows men to get help buying erectile dysfunction medicine which helps them have sex and make babies which in turn discriminates against the woman having the right to abortion to me is discrimination plain and simple.

You didn't answer my question about the 60 Democrats being fanatical. Forcing me to purchase any healthcare or forcing me to pay for abortions or viagra is also discrimination. I don't want it. Don't discriminate against me. I don't need or want abortion, viagra or healthcare.

The process is messy but I too am proud (hopefully) that Democrats are getting this done. This bill has marks of special interest but it will help the people first and foremost.

It was not that way when the Republicans (majority in both houses and White House) passed the Medicare Prescription Drug program in 2003. see link for the "process" in 2003, as Republicans passed the Socialist Entitlement Act on the House floor. How soon we forget.

You would think that wouldn't you Renard? However I am rich beyond your Wildest dreams..Not Monetarily, although I am doing well since I became a conservative and am not asking anybody for a handout anymore (As many liberals do), as a matter of fact I haven't done that since I was a mere Babe in the woods..No my wealth stems from the Friends I've made over the years and My Family and My wife's family...Maybe you should take a Poll to find out who has more "True" Friends...Democrats or Republicans ..But knowing how you take Polls...It will obviously be skewered(oops..sorry didn't mean to use such a big word) in favor of Democrats

***According to our [US Constitution], you "representatives" in Congress are violating all the Vast Intelligence, Wisdom & Experience of our GREAT Founding Fathers... You are either : ignorant of history, ignorant of law, ignorant of the complex problems with socialized society (including medicine), incompetent, insensitive to the Will of the People, using your position to rip off Americans for your own selfish (financial) gain & I could elaborate more... Many of you "representatives" have one or more of these negative characteristics & a vast # of Americans will now make the correct choice to do what they are capable of to solve these problems & to correct the damages that you dysfunctional "representatives" have caused... Our Great Country is in worse shape since the current administration "took over" & began planning & implementing their agenda... You "representatives" that are actively or passively involved, have managed to disrupt our Great Nation [adversely] currently & for future generations to come... Obviously, you "representatives" are making many poor choices/decisions in multiple areas (including) Allowing the current administration to overstep its' power & authority, Planning & Attempting to Illegally pass a Health Care "Reform", "Forgetting" to take proper steps to protect this Great Country from enemies/terrorists... & I could go on... ***Very Seriously, WJD*** [PS] You will be held accountable for these actions (or) lack of... that you choose... Your poor choices & actions will have to be dealt with someday ...(1) what goes around - comes around... (2) by the karma you send out... (3) when you meet your maker, higher power or God...

How is this by the people? Look at the MAJORITY of Americans (not Illegals) on how they feel about this health care bill passing. Its a joke, those elected officals are not listening to us Americans. America is no longer a republic (in fact it hasnt been in years) but this is another step towards socialism. Soon Hugo Chavez will have a high speed rail line built by Obama so he can contiune to see his best friend.

Also, there are so many ear marks on this bill its rediculous. How buying student loans fits into health care I do not know but there is now a law going into effect which only the Government may issue student loans. Pathetic.

Its sad a 26 year old with no college education gets it yet a "Harvard grad" doesnt grasp it.

You are right, that is sad that you are 26 years old with no college education, my question for you is why don't you have any?

If you think a high school education is going to cut the mustard in America, and let you have a decent life and raise a family, you aren't very smart at all.

When you see 40+ year old's going back to school, the thought hasn't occurred to you that getting more education might not be a bad idea.

Gentlemen: It is easy to be against anything which has little or no impact on you individually. It is also easy to criticize that which you (1) don't like (2) don't understand. Duly elected representatives cast votes which they feel are the wishes of (1) their constituents or (2) the lobbyists who assist them in their re-election process. I am not sure which carries more clout but I really suspect it is #2. Come this November you have the opportunity to assert your right to vote. In reading the previous comments though, please try to respect each other's opinions (even if they are wrong) whichever position that is. I have an ex-wife who taught me a lot about how expensive disagreements can be.
