Where I live nursing home care is at least $225.00 per day for room and board which does not include specialized care and medicine.

If you cant afford that then you have to depend on a family member and a visiting nurse to see after a sick or disabled family member.

In my opinion most Americans can not afford that type of expense which amounts to out of pocket expenses of approximately $6975.00 a month not including medicine or specialized testing and treatment by the Doctor or other health care professionals.

In my opinion only the truly wealthy and the rich like MSNBC' TV personality Keith Olberman could even begin to deal with expenses like that out of their pocket. The rest of America will need to help each other with these type of expenses, the way I choose to look at this issue is that it may be your child or parent today but it very well might be mine tomorrow.

If anyone in your family, such as your husband, wife, child, or aging parent required care in a nursing home could you afford to pay for their care as a out of pocket expense.

Having dealt with nursing homes with my Mother, 2 years passed in 06, and my brother 6 months died 1year and 2days. They had savings that covered their care until they passed. If they had not had savings, I would have had a real rough time, and would have had a tough time to make it, for very long. Mom used up all most of her money and my inheritance, from her, paid for my brother. I paid about $5800.00 a month for both, and had extra insurance for medical for my brother. If it wasn't for her savings, I would have had a rough time as it was I was lucky.
